Mater Centre for Neurosciences Epileptologist Dr Sasha Dionisio was recently awarded the ‘Health’ award at the Epilepsy Queensland Awards night.
Dr Dionisio was nominated for the award by the parent of one of his patients for contributing significantly to the medical care of people with epilepsy.
Since joining Mater Centre for Neurosciences in 2015, Dr Dionisio has developed an advanced epilepsy service using state of the art equipment to provide a full range of epilepsy care, particularly to those who do not respond to anti-epileptic drugs.
Writing about Dr Dionisio’s care, the nomination read:
“He is the most caring neurologist that I’ve ever dealt with. He has helped my daughter with her epilepsy when no other doctor could. He has given her hope.
“He treats his patients with respect and care, this also includes their families. No matter who you ask they will have nothing but high praise for Sasha and will speak highly of him.
“He will not stop until he gets answers for the patient. We are in debt to him for helping our daughter. Sasha is very deserving of this award.”
The specialised equipment in the Mater Centre for Neurosciences ensures that patients receive the best treatment for their needs, and allows for faster assessments to determine if they could benefit from surgery.
Dr Dionisio said he was humbled to receive the award.
“Receiving an award for my work is such a great honour and this award is particularly special given the nomination was made by the parent of one of my patients,” Dr Dionisio said.
“Seeing the transformation in patients when we are able to help alleviate, or sometimes eradicate, their epilepsy is an incredible outcome and so rewarding.”
Dr Dionisio was announced as the winner of the ‘Health’ award at the Epilepsy Queensland Annual Celebration, Awards and AGM in early December with MC Emily Prain from 9 News Brisbane and Epilepsy Queensland’s patron Wally Lewis in attendance.
